Artist's Statement
Art takes my breath away. Just thinking about it increases my breathing. I love looking at every kind of art there is. I love walking into my studio, smelling oil paint and turpentine. I love seeing stretcher bars and rolled canvas in the open space. I love seeing painted canvases stacked against the wall. I love putting a blank canvas on the wall and mixing paint on my palette of glass. And I love swinging my arm around with a paint brush to begin the process of creating something.I consider myself an abstract minimal artist.
Most of my paintings are serene and meditative. My work has a lot of white paint which I believe makes them feel spacious. For that reason I don’t frame my paintings because I want them to “breathe”.Some of my paintings appear more expressive, but they are minimal in color, meaning no more than 3 colors in the piece. All my paintings are painted with rapid energetic brush strokes.I believe that art is subjective and do not try to tell anyone what my paintings mean. If they create an emotion in the viewer, I consider what I’ve done successful whether a person likes it piece or not.
